Guernsey Electricity case study

Stakeholder engagement and crisis management for Guernsey Electricity.

As the sole licensed distributor of electricity to the island, Guernsey Electricity is a stalwart of the community. It is answerable to a vast number of stakeholders and responsible for a complex physical network, with about 80% of the island’s energy supplied from France through undersea cables.

The brief

As the long-term PR agency partner, Liquid's pan-island team works closely with Guernsey Electricity's communications team and chief executive officer to manage the reputation of the company amid a changing local and global energy landscape. The varied role covers strategic PR planning, copywriting and all aspects of proactive and reactive media relations.

What we did

Liquid developed strategies and tactics to manage the delicate communication of a range of issues including an ongoing tariff consultation, the Guernsey to Jersey undersea cable replacement, tariff changes aimed at rebalancing historic costs and the increased use of solar and renewable power. As well as a busy press office function, Liquid implemented overarching strategic plans. We produced responses to comments made by local politicians and following CICRA judgements, and swiftly handled crisis communications following the failure of the inter-island cable.

The result

Liquid has successfully secure comprehensive coverage in print and online as well as broadcast opportunities, whilst monitoring and measuring results to ensure positive reputation management.
